Fastly | Don’t Do Security The Hard Way

We partnered with our friends at Old School Collective to bring their comedic mini-universe for Fastly to life—a world where developer security feels a little more human, a little more relatable, and a lot more fun.

Fastly didn’t want another dry edge-security explainer. They wanted something developers would actually watch. Old School Collective handed us a sharp, creative platform built around real dev-life frustrations—false positives, burnout, shipping anxiety—and we leaned into the dry, understated humor with performances, visuals, and details (yes, including neglected office plants and an emotionally available rubber duck) that made it all feel uncomfortably real.

At the center of it all: Alex, the overwhelmed engineer; Jamie, the Fastly convert; and a set of character-driven scripts that flipped security from blocker to enabler. Our job was to ground the jokes in truth, keep the jargon out of the way, and capture those painfully relatable moments only devs truly understand.

We designed the production to scale—building a modular system of 15s cutdowns, banners, and personalized variants around four core pain points. Smart enough to work across platforms, scrappy enough to move fast. In a category where everyone else is shouting about security, this campaign lets Fastly show up with insight, honesty, and a perfectly timed smirk.

The Cutdowns

We took four of the most universal developer security frustrations and turned them into punchy :15s that land fast. Each cutdown is a quick character moment—witty, tightly paced, and a little too real—built around a single pain point. By zeroing in on those everyday headaches, the edits create instant “yep, that’s me” recognition while clearly pointing to Fastly as the smarter way forward.
