Discover Wonder
The Brief
UCI Health was preparing to open its new Irvine hospital, 300 acres of tranquility meeting 1.2 million square feet of medicine, and the Discover campaign needed a :30 to introduce it. TILT's creative was one idea, beautifully simple: a single sweeping, nature-documentary flight over the San Joaquin Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary that glides through the reeds, past the herons and dragonflies, and rises to reveal the new campus in the heart of Orange County. A wonder of nature meeting the wonders of academic medicine. We had one month for production and post.
The Idea
There was no way to shoot this one for real. The campus sits in a no-fly zone for drones and helicopters, and the camera move stretches across a wetland, a distance no ground rig could cover in our timeframe. So we stopped trying to fly it and started building it. We recommended a blend of ground photography, AI, and VFX: a camera that could go anywhere a drone couldn’t. The low vantage point wasn’t a compromise. It was the choice. Skimming the water, the campus rises heroically out of the landscape, exactly what the reveal called for.

What We Built
The finished :30 reads as one unbroken flight. The camera skims low over the water, drifts through the reeds as a frog breaks the surface and birds swoop past, moves toward a lone tree on the bank, and lifts through the branches to reveal the UCI Health campus in the distance.
It was built from five still photographs:
Capturing them meant working small and quiet. The sanctuary welcomes individuals walking with handheld cameras but shuts down anything that resembles a production, so our photographer worked the marsh alone and on foot, sunrise to sunset, gathering plates along a single linear path from the wetland toward the campus. We retouched the plates, keeping the campus hidden behind the trees on Campus Drive until the final reveal, then used AI and VFX to generate the motion between frames, extend the wetland, bring in its native species, and composite the campus and signage into place. Natural wipes through reeds and branches stitch the stills into one seamless take, finished with a full color pass. The approach gave up some control over shot length in exchange for a look we couldn’t have captured any other way, so we stayed flexible at every step.
The Result
The film became the broadcast centerpiece of TILT's Discover campaign, the launch that carried UCI Health's new Irvine hospital across Orange County: television and radio, billboards and shopping-center marquees, airport and magazine placements. The hospital opened in December 2025. Ours was the spot that opened the story, delivered in a single month.
The honest headline is simple: this film could not have been made without AI. From a handful of still plates, it let us build a move no camera was allowed to fly and deliver almost exactly what TILT set out to create.
Not innovation for its own sake. Innovation because it was the only way to get the shot. That is what M/Ai is built for.
